LEAKING ON CHRISTMAS
Rufus Leaking Releases Holiday EP

After Thanksgiving, with a belly full of tofu turkey, I began working on my annual Christmas manifesto. You know the one - not consuming so much, making gifts instead of buying them, how family and friends are what's important and all, when it hit me.  Why preach this when I can sing it!  So I gathered some of my favorite musicians like Fugazi's Brendan Canty and super songsmith Vic Chesnutt to bang out a tune while I scribbled down some of my thoughts. What resulted is "Leaking on Christmas ".  This is what I consider my masterpiece - my piece de resistance, if you will. Hope you enjoy.

Leaking on Christmas

Purchase and download the album or individual songs online here. (You will be emailed a link to download the songs. If you have spam-blocking please let "pm_music at pancakemountain.com" through so you can access the tunes!)

or if you want to kick it old school go to the Shop page to order the CD (contains original artwork and one bonus track not available online).

best way to listen:  loud and with headphones.

Happy Holidays

SNEAK PEAK AT TEGAN AND SARA FOOTAGE
Our favorite canadian twins rock the mountain

About 100 kids joined us for an amazing performance by Tegan and Sara last Saturday. The band milled around joking and answering questions for  about 20 minutes before taking the stage to perform "Hop A Plane" and "Back In Your Head." Not only can they rock with the best of them, but they're also sweeter than apple pie.

Tegan and Sara with Rufus Leaking

After the performance they sat down and taught Rufus about the importance of trust.

This is worth watching, trust me.

WEEKLY SHOW REVIEW
This week the Sippy Cups

Last Sunday, I got the opportunity to check out The Sippy Cups at Jammin' Java in Vienna, Virginia.  I arrived at the venue not entirely sure how it was going to go. My first thought was, "Woah, these guys must love kids." There were plenty of little ones running around and being followed around by dazed parents that looked like they hadn't slept for days.  In a word, it was chaos.

Once the Sippy Cups began their show, the chaos was subdued. They played non-stop entertainment for an hour, captivating the audience of little ones and big ones alike; while a physical entertainer, with props, playacted with the band and children. Some of the kids were even brought into to the act on stage individually and in an all invited pogo-dance. Along with the music there was juggling, lights, colors, streamers, giant balloons, unicyclists, a robot, dancing, a super-hero, blow bubbles, a kazoo, you name it, it was in there. Although I'm a bit outside the age of their general fan base, I became an instant fan. If you have youngsters, I totally recommend you check them out.  The Sippy Cups were quite simply sippy-brilliant.

We wish them well and hope to have them back on the mountain soon.

September 13, 2007

Hello everybody!

Did you think we had forgotten about you? All of us here at the Pancake Mountain Headquarters in Washington DC have been secluded and slaving away working on new episodes. As soon as we have release dates we'll send an announcement out to you.

Curt Kirkwood and the PM crew

We took a break this past weekend, grabbed the camera gear and sneaked out of the studio to spend time with The Meat Puppets while they were in town to play at The Black Cat. (Don't tell Guillaume.) The guys were great, Curt Kirkwood and Rufus had a good reunion and even did a song together - check out the video here.

And because we always like having many projects all going at the same time (also known as Chaos but it works for us) Rufus has started working on a Holiday album - but we need your help. What Christmas or holiday song would you like to hear performed by Rufus? We've got a few ideas of our own, including some duets, but would love to have your input too! Send your ideas to Rufus!

Vic Chesnutt

Vic Chesnutt's new album - North Star Deserter - was released this week and made us very happy! Read all about it here.

We love Vic! If you haven't checked him out before he comes highly recommended!

Vic Chesnutt's website.

We are trying really hard to not film any more events until we get the backlog of videos edited and online or on the dvds.  Those music festivals are fun but a lot hard work, and we come home with hours of footage to process.  Once we get the new episodes completed and out to you then we can start having Dance Parties again!  We miss Dance Parties!

Keep watching this space!

P. S.
Curt and Chris signed my album! It pays to hold on to your vinyl (with a link for all those kids who don't know what I'm talking about.)

Meat Puppets signed my "Up On The Sun" album!

Howdy Mountaineers,

My new BFF, Monte Carlo, and I are going to be at Lollapalooza this year and we need your help coming up with interview questions for all of the bands. Think of your best humorous questions for the performers and send them to us - we will try to get them answered.

If we choose your question we’ll send you a free T-shirt. If you’re going to be there and want to help us ask some questions in person write to us NOW!

Have fun and go play outside, unless it’s too hot, then read lots of books inside, but if it’s not too hot and you don’t feel like playing, then read books outside, but if it does get too hot you might think about making lemonade.

Love,
Garnett

Ft Reno 2007

July 29, 2007

Hello Mountaineers

This Thursday evening  Pancake Mountain favorites The Aquarium will be performing at Fort Reno.

If you haven’t been to Fort Reno this year you must go, it is one of the many things that make DC the greatest city on earth. And it's free!

On a sad note our favorite music rag, Punk Planet, is calling it quits. This will leave a giant void in the world of independent journalism. We wish them all the best. Thanks for so many years of amazing coverage.

Another one of our favorite bands, Against Me, has released a great new album 'new wave' that is certain to become a classic. In honor of this we dug out an old interview the band did with us, check it out.

We have episode#3 DVD’s back in stock, to order go to our Store page. International and record stores please order through Discord Records here - http://www.dischord.com/store/

Keep watching this space, we will have more updates in August.
I promise!

your pal,
Rufus Leaking

Bonnaroo 2007

June 22, 2007

Hello Mountaineers,

We're back from bonnaroo and boy did we have a great time. Superfly and Big Hassle really treated us like kings, so our hats off to them for making this happen.

Rufus got to have his own little 'jam' area backstage, where he could run wild and do as he pleased (which is the only way Rufus likes to do things).

Franz Ferdidnand , Wayne Coyne, and the White Stripes all stopped by to sing and have a laugh with Rufus, as well as some great interviews with Lewis Black, Lily Allen, Tim Fite, Alan Light and more.

Of course since Rufus is not only a music reporter but a superstar in his own right, we had folks like MTV stopping by to see us (see pic below). It was very busy with not much downtime, but when there was, we were playing in our sandbox (that we built in front of our tent), ate funnel cake and ran around like madmen (and women).

Check out this video preview of all this madness.

Still having trouble catching our show in your home town? maybe you should move to Australia, PM begins airing next month on channel 31 on Saturday mornings. DVD's go on sale Friday. Listen to this cool promo they did (listen). Meanwhile, in Japan, PM volume 1 will be available this saturday for the bargain price of 2,940 Yen. You can go here to look at the cool cover art .

thanks for your patience during our little hiatus, we'll be back really soon with dance parties, new episodes and much more

ciao baby,

scott

What's Up With The Mountain?

A lot of people have been writing and calling to ask, "what the heck is going on?"  Well, I'm gonna tell you.

We've decided to take some time off this summer and regroup. During the fall and spring we had over 30 dance parties so we've decided to finish the 6 or so episodes we have in the can. These will include the great 'chic a go-go' show as well as interviews and performances by X, Jenny Lewis, Pylon, Nellie McKaye, the Flaming Lips, Wolf Mother, Built to Spill, Guster, Scissor Sisters, Elf Power, and much more.

Once these episodes are finished, we plan on emerging with a new look and format which will include a slew of original songs written especially for us by some of the coolest bands around. The plan in no way rules out a surprise dance party or two so keep your dancing shoes on stand-by, but for the most part, we're rolling up our sleeves and getting down to business.

This change can be groovy - believe me, this is what the Mountain needs and we will be back and better than ever.

So be patient and enjoy the summer.

Your pal,

Rufus Leaking

BTW: My singing career is taking off. Whilst I'm known as the Notorious Yodl-Ay-EEE-Oooo, I feel I'm ready to move into other styles. First up, I have me and Widespread Panic performing live in Athens, Georgia. True, I'm more of a punk rocker, but I think you'll agree that I'm capable of any style: Jam, Soul, Down Tempo, Up Tempo, Rap, Slab, Hip Hop...You name it, I sing it.

BREAKING NEWS

Pancake Mountain Star Rufus Leaking Has Fallen In Love,
No Longer On Market.

Howdy,

What’s that sound you hear? It’s the collective wailing of thousands of women around the world. That’s right, fellow hipsters. Yours truly, your ol’ pal Rufus Leaking of Pancake Mountain, has been bitten by the love bug. We saw so many charming, talented, and lovely ladies during our visit to SXSW—all of them potential candidates in the race to win my heart. And darn it if one didn’t come out victorious. Smitten…that’s what I am…SMITTEN I say! And who is the fabulously lucky lady who has crushed the hopes and dreams of all womendom? HESTA PRYNN of NORTHERN STATE.

Yes, you’d think after trouncing them in a live freestyle battle, the shame and dejection would have caused a rift between us…but it turns out it just made us that much closer. So much so that I was invited to join them onstage for one of their performances. That’s where our eyes met at I realized destiny was fulfilling itself. Yes my sweet Hesta, you win the wondrous, coveted prize. You are officially my old lady of record. You’ve got talent, you’ve got looks, and now you have the most important thing of all…you’ve got Rufus. I love you, Hesta Prynn. Your puzzle is complete.

Rufus and Hesta Prynn

So sorry ladies. Rufus is off the market. I’ve caught my limit and need to throw the rest of you back. But take heart. Love is a fleeting thing. And if I don’t hear from Hesta soon, I’ll be pulling all your numbers back out of the garbage pail.

Peace, love and understanding.

Rufus

Howdy,

SXSW is less then a week away and we've set up a special blog so you can see what me and the rest of the PM gang are up to while we're in Austin. On The Road with Pancake Mountain

I had so much fun the other night at the Scissor Sisters show. Jake and Paddy are outrageous! We had a great time singing together. I tell you, those two are almost the same caliber vocalist as me, le crème de la crème.

Watch the video!

Sassy and wild, everything you want in a rock star.

Here is a picture our cameraman Brian Liu took last time they came thru DC, pretty good, huh.

Also check out Tracy Lee's photos from this time around.

Pancake Mountain t-shirt
John Hennesy came up with these great t-shirts of me as promos for SXSW and we have just a few extra for sale, so if you want one you better fly to our shop quicker then Captain!

Rufus Leaking

February 28, 2007

Guster is in the great city of Washington DC tonight, and you can bet that me, Garnett and the Captain will be in the front row
yelling. I will post photo's tomorrow.

Until then here is a bit of footage from when the band visited us this summer to perform 'C'mon'. The cool animation came from our new bestest friend Bradley Lambert.

If you're in L.A. this Saturday go to McCabe's, my second favorite
venue in the world, and see my favorite performer Vic Chesnutt. You Will Not Be Disappointed.

14 days until SXSW

your pal,

Rufus Leaking.
